Hypnos has to momentarily reboot because part of him didn't realize it was for real real. But, he has an idea that he think will be nice. ]
Oh yeah - I --
[ He leans, a little, but then Jane will feel herself being lifted gently and slowly being lifted as he uses small bits of kinetic magic to get her off of the ground. Just closer moment by moment. ]
[She's not about to make such a statement and not follow through! Jane Porter is no hussy, though she feels terribly daring to be doing this when they haven't even been on two dates.
He leans down, then her feet are suddenly lifting off the floor and she squeaks in alarm, grabbing his shoulders with both hands. The surprise fades quickly and she laughs as one of her shoes slips off her foot and hits the kitchen floor.]
Ah--.. well.
[Gently, she brushes a hand through his hair where it curls below and behind his ear. It's still soft. Her fingers settle behind his neck and she leans in, pressing a warm kiss to his mouth.]
[ He says it, just as she squeaks when she's being lifted off the ground. But she's holding onto his shoulders and that little bit of extra is nice, and she doesn't seem upset. So maybe the idea was a good one. He placed his hands gingerly on either of her cheeks. His own actions are gentle.
His face flushes in a blush, cheeks and ears warm all the way to his ears.
And he leans into that kiss. Not a peck on his cheek or on the corner of his lips. And he doesn't feel near as flustered as he had thought he would when it actually happens. Not as flustered as he was in every moment leading up to it.
He feels happy. He feels light and easy and he likes the feel of her hands in his hair. He feels butterflies doing flips and it's a lot, but he's happy to have her so close to him.
He doesn't linger too long, and after what feels like so both a lot of time and not enough, he pulls away, staying in close.
And for the first time he can think of - he has nothing to say. ]
[She lets out a little giggle, and while it's not quite a nervous sound it is a shy one. Suddenly, she can't quite meet his eyes and she's pink all the way to the tips of her ears.]
Hmm. Well.
[How bold! How daring! She can hardly believe she'd been so brazen. Jane presses her lips together and tries in vain to hide a smile, but it doesn't work at all. Her fingers brush through the soft curls at the nape of Hypnos' neck as she rests her forearms lightly against his shoulders.]
You ought to know... I would have done that anyway, regardless of whether or not you'd made a complete mess of things.
[ At least he's not alone in how flushed his face is. He feels like his face and ears are radiating heat. He's happy, though. He's smiling with pure, unrestricted delight. Affection had been such an unknown, but being here, he understands why people enjoy it so much. Even something so straightforward and sincere as a kiss.
Those soft touches at the curls of his hair. The way she's holding onto him, almost. The way his hands drift affectionately from her cheeks to the back of her head, to her neck. But he dares not let them drift any further. ]
I -- [ He wouldn't have guessed that. ] I'm glad to know. But I'm still glad to have done it right. I mean, you deserve to be treated right.
[She tips her head slightly against the brush of his fingers on her cheek, giving him a soft and warm smile that lingers around her eyes and the corners of her mouth after it fades.]
You truly mean that, don't you.
[Jane, of course, does indeed believe that she deserves nothing less than that, but it makes her chest flutter to hear it spoken so earnestly from the target of her affections.]
You're terribly sweet, Hypnos. I find it hard to believe you've never done anything like this before.
[ Ah - that smile. He has butterflies. It's so nice to have them, too. ]
Of course I mean it.
[ He's not always super sincere, he likes to tease people and joke with them. But right now? He's totally serious when he talks to her. He means every single word that he says, and then she says he's sweet and -- wait, the blush never really left his cheeks, did it? ]
Huh, really? Well, I guess I've never really liked someone the way I like you before.
[ Still sincere. ]
And it's not like dating is a totally normal thing for gods. You just kind of -- do whatever you want, I guess?
[There's a small thud as one of her shoes hits the floor, and the other follows it after a far more deliberate wiggle of her foot. It does feel very odd to be floating like this, but... she can't say she minds.
Jane cards her fingers through his hair again. It's soft, and the silly thought occurs to her that it's how clouds might feel. She lets the strands fall through the gaps between her fingers and feels how they drop back into those gentle curls again.]
The myths do give that impression. [She tells him, though it's certainly more the Olympians than any of the Chthonic deities.
The young woman tilts her head slightly. She's never been this close to his face for this long and her thoughts tumble out if her mouth without a mind for how strange she might sound.]
You have... very pretty eyes. Like pale amber. Or honey.
[ You can't just tell a guy that he has pretty eyes like that, Jane. He doesn't know what to say or do. He's just quiet, staring intently at her with warm cheeks and ears and blinks at her. It takes him a few moments before he speaks again. ]
O-oh. Thank you.
[ He bites back the temptation to turn a compliment towards him into a joke or self deprecation. It's difficult, and it's probably clear by the momentary fumbling before he says anything else. ]
No one's said something like that before to me.
[ He realizes that she probably has no idea what she does to him. How he feels so good with her. Like he feels so complimented and undeserving, but she's still here. His thumb moves over her cheek, a soft and affectionate motion. ]
I don't think I've ever been this close to anyone. You know... that's why I picked a blue flower, right?
[Jane has quickly gained the impression that Hypnos has been, if not outright poorly treated, certainly ignored and overlooked. If not always, then at least for long enough to manifest these behaviours and reactions that show themselves so clearly when she says something nice about him or shows interest in him as a person.
It prods at a soft, tender part of her heart. Already, she feels that he is so deserving of every kind word she gives to him. She wouldn't give them if he wasn't.]
I think I can guess. [The flower does match her eyes, now she thinks about it.
Still buoyed up by his kinetic magic, she uses the arm draped over his shoulder to carefully move in closer to him. She almost pushes flush up against him, separated by barely enough of a gap to pass a hair through in some places, and her heart races.
Her fingers push into his hair again, curl, and lightly grip it.
And then, despite being so sure she would do it only once today, and once again against all propriety, she kisses Hypnos again.]
[ A hand moves through strands of her hair so it can settle on the back of her head as he looks at her. But then, she kisses him, and oh - he's surprised. He's surprised, and glad that he has a good control on his magic, so at least he still has her. He's nervous, though. He didn't think he was as nervous as he was until she's pressed up against him like this. He hesitates for a moment, before his hands drift because they have nowhere to go, and settle on her hips.
He leans into that kiss, more than happy to return it. She makes him feel --
Really good. Good about himself, good about being here with her, happy to know her. He was just -- delighted. He lingers longer than he did before but not much longer. Even though when he pulls back, he doesn't really. He plants a soft kiss on the corner of her mouth, and leans forward, resting his forehead against hers. ]
[She feels... fluttery, and she might just die of embarrassment on the spot if Aurora walks in at this moment. Her fingers brush through his hair again, up to the feather-like curl sweeping upwards above his ear. She touches it curiously, though never takes her eyes away from his for even a moment.]
It's very flattering, to know you've been looking at me so closely.
[Jane gives him another kiss, just a gentle one, brief and a little off-set towards the corner of his mouth.]
[ Huh - oh. He lets out a small sound of surprise at her comment. Really? She's flattered? His eyes stay locked on her. She definitely doesn't know what she does to him, or how she makes him feel. Or how different it is from how he's always felt around others. He's always been so bothersome and lazy and unmotivated -- no one who works hard and has goals really wants to spend time with someone like that. And he's not really inclined to change himself or who he is because he doesn't dislikehimself for that.
But she seems to notice the fact that he's got some good. And she's lucky? He doesn't really know how to accept compliments directed at him. ]
Don't be silly.
[ He doesn't know what to do with that, either. Thank you hardly seems like it will cut it. Jane could be anywhere, with anyone. She's kind and attractive and -- she talented and strong. And -- she's here with him and by choice. Because certainly she'd tell him to back off if she didn't want him here. Certainly she wouldn't kiss him twice. Certainly, if she didn't meant that, they wouldn't be standing here right now. ]
There's nowhere else I'd rather be right now.
[ A soft, easy little laugh. ]
You found my wing. I have no idea if this was by design [ from Nyx, of course ] or if it's just how I am.
Still, would you like me to set you down? I'll ask next time I lift you up like that -- [ presumptuous ] so not to surprise you.
[The wing, that is. She runs her fingers over it again then leaves it alone.]
Ah... yes, you can set me down. [Jane chuckles as she answers that, having not minded his presuming to lift her up like this at all. She unhooks her arm from around his shoulders but lets her hands stay there as he sets her feet back on the floor, lightly trailing them down to his chest when the height difference becomes more pronounced.]
Oh-- Hmm. [Abruptly, she realises what she's doing with her hands and lets them drop, a light flush rising to her cheeks.]
[ He sets her down gently, easily. He leans a little so he can kiss her forehead, moving a hand gently over her hair. He doesn't seem to mind the gentle, easy touches from her that almost feel like they're second nature. There's something to appreciate about just doing something because you wanted to at that time, with little hesitation. If anything, his smile is clear indication that he seems to like this. ]
That's good. It was a risk I wanted to take.
[ And he figures she'd have said something at the time, but he's still glad he knows that she doesn't. ]
I think I agreed to help with some dishes, yeah?
[ As much as he'd like to just stand here and give and get kiss upon kiss -- He did offer. ]
Oh, well... I suppose I don't mind if you want to take more. Risks, that is. Um. With me.
[Help.
Red to the roots of her hair she turns away and busies herself with the sink, still feeling the tingle on her lips where his had touched. Or-- where she'd touched his, because she'd really been making all the moves up there hadn't she. The thought sends a little tingle up her spine.]
Yes, the dishes. I'll hand them over so you can dry them, then just stack them on the side.
[And then she plunges her hands into the water, keeping her head down so he - hopefully - can't see how red she's gone.]
[ She's blushing. And it...looks nice on her. He could almost sit and watch her her with that flush. Of course, for him, it'd probably be better called admiring instead of watching. He takes the towel, glancing sideways at her so he can help doing as he was initially instructed, helping dry the dishes, and going to be careful about it all since he doesn't want to make mistakes. ]
I think I'd...like to take more risks with you.
[ He already feeling a small bit bolder by the suggestion. He's pretty happy, and it's clear on his face. ]
I'm --
[ He focuses on his plate. ]
I've never really been interested in someone before. So for me -- I'm still...
[She doesn't want to source too much of what she thinks she knows about Hypnos from the myths she's read about him. It seems like a disservice, when his personality is just so much more than the stories she's heard.
As they're stood next to one another, she gently bumps her shoulder into his arm.]
I've... been interested, but it never went very far. [Jane chews her lip for a moment after she admits that, then looks up at him with a bright smile.]
Really. I think because it'd take someone pretty special to catch my eye. I've always known I had a very long time to figure myself out, so I guess I'm taking my time.
[ He says the words so easily and freely. He chuckles a little at it. ]
I think mortals should be interested and experience things.
[ He doesn't harp on the fact that it's because they have less time - but that's part of it. ]
It's okay. Just know that I want to do my best and right by you. And if you think I've messed up, it's okay to tell me. I'm not a god who holds grudges. At least not for long.
[She passes him another plate to try off as she thinks about what she's saying. Jane doesn't think it's going to be insulting, but still...]
I'm not really thinking of you as a god at all.
[With the plate handed over she picks up a glass and dunks it into the water, washing that too.] It feels very big to me, to think about that, and... I think I'd prefer to know you as a person.
[But she has a feeling that other people may not see him that way if they know his background, and she supposes... she just wants to reassure him that she has no intentions of treating him like a god.
Though she thinks that he's quite happy with that.]
[ How is he meant to react to such a compliment. Well, he smiles, blushes a little, and he feels words catch in his throat for a minute. He glances towards her. If he had his hoodie, he think he might try to disappear into it. ]
I -
[ He's trying. ]
Thank you. I think I believe it most when you say it.
[ She's so honest. And to be honest, he's not deflecting - so it's a step. ]
I think you're pretty great. And I feel really lucky. I mean, you could spend time with anyone, but you're here with me.
[She does notice that he doesn't deflect her compliment. She had called him out on it rather bluntly before and it does warm her a little to realise that he'd listened. He deserves to hear nice things, she thinks, and to be able to believe them when he hears them without trying to make a joke out of it.
Jane hands him up the last plate and drains the water from the sink, then grabs a towel of her own to dry her hands.]
There, that's all done. Um... would you like something to drink? We can sit down and talk.
[ He's gentle when he dries the plate, and quietly wipes and pats it dry to ensure that it is fully dried and watches her for a moment as he does. It's hard to resist, though. And he's sure he'll slip up sometime, but the moment has passed without flaw so he can be happy about it for now. ]
Oh - yeah. Thanks. I'd like to sit and talk. But if I get too bothersome, just tell me to go away. It always works with me.
[ Far be it for him to overstay his welcome in her house. ]
