[Something had been weighing on Caster's mind since the Tournament in Celliwig- and despite how many other things she was trying to juggle, the thought wouldn't shake. You see, she'd seen a young woman spending an awful lot of time around her cousin throughout the day- and Hypnos seemed extremely engaged by her.
...Caster had to find out exactly who this person was. Because clearly, this was now her business.
And it just so happened that she spotted said woman in town whilst she was on the way home from her business meeting with Darin.
Hm... cloaking herself in shadow, she tried to follow her and see what she could find out. Unfortunately, the fact Caster currently had a sheep like lower body- thankfully, covered by a long skirt- meant she couldn't be as subtle as she was hoping...]
[Jane is going about her business in Camelot's market the way she normally does - picking up a few things for dinner, maybe a treat she'd share with Aurora - when she feels the unmistakeable sensation of being watched. She frowns, though does her best not to make it look obvious that she noticed anything at all, and as she looks over some apples she glances furtively about herself.
Could she just be being paranoid? A lot has happened lately and she'd be lying if she said she was sleeping well at the moment.
She sighs at herself, buys four apples and tries to shake off the feeling. What would anyone be watching her for, anyway? As far as she's aware she's done nothing to draw anyone's ire.
But as she leaves the market with her purchases and starts walking home, she can still feel the hairs on the back of her neck rising up. She stops under the pretense of rearranging the items in her bag, setting it down on a wall and rummaging inside it, and finally - finally she spots the shadow following her out of the corner of her eye.
Though she's still timid about using dark magic at all, a small hex begins forming in one of her hands.]
I can see you, you know. Why are you following me?
[Ah- she'd been spotted...well, she could work with that, Caster supposed. She trusted that in magic, she'd be the better off if it came down to a duel between them.]
Because you've caught my interest...you've been keeping some interesting company, recently.
[The Darkness swirled around Caster like a veil- certainly, playing up the evil witch act for all of this.]
[Jane feels very much like the support has been taken out of her knees. The pit of her stomach drops and her palms turn slightly clammy.
Nothing of this shows in her shift in posture. She straightens her back, her shoulders, and turns to face the woman head-on.]
And just what business is it of yours whose company I keep?
[The hex gathering in her hand dissipates as she changes her mind and quickly summons a protective ward instead. It shimmers on the ground around her feet.]
[Hm. Caster spotted the way the ground shimmered- but she couldn't be certain exactly what it would do from just its appearance. Well, best to keep a little distance between them for the time being.]
"Caster". But we've both been in Avalon a while, haven't we? I'm sure this isn't the first time you've seen me.
[Jane narrows her eyes. This woman is... annoying her. Though she's not about to make a fight of it she can certainly do the next best thing - remove herself from the situation.]
If you're not going to speak plainly about what you want, I'm leaving. I'm not playing this silly game.
[Is she scared? Yes, absolutely. But not so much that she won't be able to get herself out of there. The last couple of years have hardened her somewhat against shocks like this one.]
I don't care to be intimidated by someone I don't know.
[Well, she had a backbone at least- but she wasn't denying that she was intimidated...good.
Caster couldn't have her removing herself from the situation though. She'd never get her answers at that point, and she didn't want to ask Hypnos himself about this.]
Very well...then tell me. What exactly is your connection to Hypnos?
[The nearby shadows rippled ominously- part of her carefully constructed stagecraft.]
[Is that what this is about? Has this woman been following her? The fear coiled in her chest gives over to the irritation she feels at this entire situation and the audacity of the woman accosting her.]
That's none of your business! Why don't you go and ask him if it vexes you so.
[And she makes a decision, then, that she's going to leave. Turning her back might not be the wisest choice, but it feels better than backing up step by step. Jane grabs her bag up from the bench and turns quickly on her heel.]
Because I want to know your intentions. He can't tell me that now, can he?
[So she was planning on leaving, hm? The witch took a deep breath, her shadow rippling as it separated from her body, leaving a sickening chill behind.
Caster's Shadow couldn't actually do anything on it's own aside from move around, but it could at least dart right in front of Jane- hopefully that would unnerve her enough to stop her walking off without answering her questions.]
[She does stop, though it looks to be more out of tense exasperation than fear. It only takes a moment for her to realise this is a projection of dark magic - she could do it too, if she concentrated - and she frowns and sidesteps it.]
How many times must I say it's none of your business before you realise I'm not going to discuss it with you?
[Looks like Jane's still planning on leaving. She adjusts her bag strap on her shoulder and walks past the shadow with her chin lifted defiantly.]
Caster, was it? I'll be sure to let Hypnos know to get in touch.
[Hmph. So that didn't intimidate her? How frustrating- but it was just as she had started to gather the shadows around her again that Jane dropped that on her.
A shiver ran up her back.
Caster was glad that she had the hooded cloak covering most of her face- that way Jane wouldn't see the way her eyes grew wide as the innate fear of the very God she was trying to...protect?...in all this rippled through her.
She knew, after all, that the Gods could ruin her life on a whim.
And she was quieter a moment longer than she wanted to admit.]
Ha... Do you really intend to go and hide behind the Gods?
[Her voice was low, hopefully betraying nothing of that primal fear Jane had kicked off in her. And in a last ditch attempt to stop any of this getting back to Hypnos: ]
Do such a thing...and I will ensure that I curse you for it.
[...She didn't expect Jane to call her bluff. But that, of course, left her with a dilemma- going into this, she knew she couldn't hurt this woman. Not if she didn't want to severely anger Hypnos. On the other hand, if she did nothing, then her threat would lose its weight.
She couldn't have Jane thinking she didn't have it in her to follow up on her words.
But...
No. She knew when to back down.]
Keep this to yourself...and don't try to harm him, then I won't have to, will I?
[Caster lowered her hand, pulling the shadows back around herself like a protective aura. For now, she hoped that warning was enough.]
Action (lmk if this works!)

1/2 Caster why are you such a dumbass

... Try it.
[The words slip out before she can stop them, with more venom behind them that she thought herself capable of. Curse her? She could do her worst.
Jane was not helpless.
With her heart in her throat she keeps walking, quickly, hoping that's the end of it.]
